While we prefer not to give generic resume advice, we are happy to share some tips to enhance your resume for the talent search process. Each employer has unique preferences, so highlight all your achievements and strengths honestly to facilitate deeper discussions during the interview.  

  

Your resume is a vital component of your job search and should be treated with importance. It often represents your first interaction with a potential employer or recruitment firm. Our consultants review over 100 resumes weekly, so the following tips should help ensure yours stands out.  

  

**Preparing for the Interview**  

The goal of your resume is to secure an interview, giving you the chance to present yourself in person. Before starting, clarify your goals with a self-assessment that outlines your skills, experience, and professional aspirations. This preparation will simplify the resume-writing process.  

  

Consider drafting a specific objective for your resume that outlines the role you seek, tailoring it for each application. This leads us to our next point.  

  

**Be Unique**  

Each resume should be uniquely crafted for the individual and the position applied for. Tailor your resume to reflect the relevant skills and experiences that align with the role you're pursuing.  

  

**Be Honest**  

Never falsify information on your resume. If you succeed in getting an interview based on a lie, it will likely be uncovered during the selection process. Only include what you can support or explain comfortably.  

  

**Presentation**  

While the content is vital for gaining an interview, presentation matters too. Ensure your resume is clear and visually appealing to engage the reader effectively.  

  

**Interpersonal Skills**  

During the interview, employers assess your overall performance, not just your answers. Remember that appearance significantly influences first impressions—85% of what is perceived comes from how you dress and present yourself.  

  

**Do’s and Don’ts**  

**DO** shake hands firmly, maintain eye contact, and greet the interviewer by name.  

**DO** be charismatic; showcasing your interpersonal skills is crucial.  

**DO** listen well and remember to smile.  

**DON’T** just answer questions; respond thoughtfully without over-explaining.  

**DO** take a moment to pause before answering questions; this shows you are considering your response.  

**DON’T** discuss salary or benefits in the initial interview unless you are certain the interviewer is interested in hiring you. Know your market value and discuss it with your consultant beforehand to ensure alignment with current salary expectations for your skills and experience.  

  

**During the Interview**  

When discussing your career history, cover the following:  

- Outline of each company you’ve worked for.  

- Description of each role held.  

- Skills and software used.  

- Team dynamics: level, personalities, challenges, and size.  

- Reasons for leaving previous positions.  

- Likes and dislikes regarding each role while maintaining professionalism.  

- Relevant interests like languages or personal background.  

  

**Potential Interview Questions**  

- Why do you want to work here?  

- How can you add value to our organization?  

- What do you expect from this position that was lacking in your prior roles?

**Negative Points to Avoid**  

- Lack of career planning or foresight.
